NBC Revisits the World of Oz

emeraldheaderThe holidays are always a time to revisit classic movies and TV shows we grew up with, and now NBC has released a trailer where the Peacock Network is revisiting the world of Oz, with the trailer for the new series Emerald City, which gives you a first look at the upcoming drama series starring Adria Arjona, Vincent D’Onofrio, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ana Ularu, Mido Hamada, Jordan Loughran, Gerran Howell, and Joely Richardson.

In the blink of a tornado’s eye, 20-year-old Dorothy Gale and a K9 police dog are swept into a world far removed from our own – a mystical land of competing realms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy. Starring Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil, Jurassic World) as the guileful Wizard and directed by the visionary Tarsem Singh across three European countries, this is Oz completely reimagined – a place where familiar characters show up in fresh, unexpected ways, and where an unsuspecting young woman holds the fate of kingdoms in her hands. And as Dorothy navigates this dangerous world and uncovers her true destiny, we’ll see there’s no place like… Oz.

David Schulner, Shaun Cassidy, Josh Friedman and Matthew Arnold serve as executive producers. The series is directed by Tarsem Singh Dhandwar, who also serves as an executive producer. Emerald City is a Universal Television production.

This is not the first revisiting of L. Frank Baum. What is it about this new series that sets it apart from the previous versions? Is this NBC’s attempt to capitalize on the success of Once Upon A Time?
