In a bold move that easily resembles its sister show, CW’s The Flash has already started dipping into the rich comic book material and has cast someone to play a S.T.A.R. Labs maintenance worker. The character is Ronnie Raymond, and he is well known by fans as the youthful half of the nuclear fusion hero Firestorm, and the actor cast to play Ronnie is none other than Stephen Amell’s younger cousin, Robbie Amell (The Tomorrow People).
Where Ronnie is in relation to Firestorm is yet to be seen, but it’s safe to assume that given his job at S.T.A.R. Labs it is quite possible that we may see the origins of Firestorm, and given the interest the CW currently has in their super hero properties, there might even be a chance that Firestorm could receive a backdoor pilot, or possibly even a pilot episode and series of his own much the same way that Grant Gustin did after appearing on Arrow.
“Geoff Johns, Andrew Kreisberg and myself designed the pilot and series to include Ronnie (aka Firestorm) – and to actually have someone with Robbie’s talent playing the role is beyond exciting,” said executive producer Greg Berlanti.
“We can’t wait for viewers and fans of the character to check it out.”
“I’m so excited to join forces with Greg Berlanti and The CW again on The Flash,” added Amell. “Being brought into the DC Universe is a dream, I can’t wait to get started!”
The Atom is a super hero who can both alter the size and molecular density of his body, as well as affect the size of certain objects around him.
It is currently unknown as to when Routh will appear in Arrow, but it is rumored that he might play a love interest to Felicity Smoak. Over on The Flash however, Robbie Amell will appear as Ronnie Raymond in the third episode of the new series.
Lastly, in a bit of comic book trivia that is sure to cause for a lot of water-cooler conversation, in the DC comic book, Felicity Smoak is the step-mother to Ronnie Raymond.
