Proving that Asa Butterfield isn’t one to rest on his laurels even after being turned down to play Marvel’s Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man, Butterfield, along with Gary Oldman (Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban), Carla Gugino (Night at the Museum), and Britt Robertson (Tomorrowland) have been cast in STX Entertainment’s interplanetary love story entitled, Out Of This World.
The plot as announced by STX Entertainment is a modern love story about two teens from different worlds. After sixteen years he begins an online romance with another human girl in Colorado and schemes to travel to the neighboring planet Earth in order to meet her. Having to go on the run, his very existence is threatened due to the increased gravity on Earth, all in the hopes to find the girl of his dreams and hopefully win her love. Along the way, the two of them seek out the billionaire who was behind the initial Mars expedition in the hopes of learning more about Gardner’s mother, and the mysterious circumstances surrounding how Gardner even came to be.
“This is a unique, well-crafted personal story set against an expansive landscape, and we are thrilled to be a part of this film and work with this enormously talented cast,” said Adam Fogelson. “The film has a completely authentic voice and the kinds of nuanced characters who are distinctive and truly memorable. We were drawn in by this story and its universal themes of longing for community and love. We can’t wait to begin shooting with Peter Chelsom and Richard Lewis, and the entire production team.”
