In a classic case of “the source meets the force,” TG2 Studios have learned that the first official trailer for the upcoming Star Trek Beyond will be attached to J.J. Abrams and Disney’s/Lucasfilms’ Star Wars VIII: The Force Awakens when it is released on December 18. While this may seem a bit odd at first glance, all one needs to do is remember that the first two Star Trek movies, as well as this Star Wars film were directed by Abrams.
Star Trek Beyond is set to feature the return of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoë Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and John Cho. Also joining the movie will be Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella and Joe Taslima. Abrams, since taking on The Force Awakens as its director has settled for the role of producer for this third Star Trek Film, and Justin Lin (four time Fast and Furious director) will helping this latest film with a script from Simon Pegg and Doug Jung.
Star Trek Beyond will hit regular theaters and IMAX on July 22, 2016. That’s just over a month before the franchise celebrates its 50th anniversary. Although it wasn’t the first episode produced, “The Man Trap” was the first Star Trek episode to be broadcast and it hit television September 8, 1966.
