TG2 Studios has learned that Walt Disney Studios has hired Kelly Marcel to write the script, and unlike the two previous live action films where Glenn Close played the already established iconic villainess (101 Dalmatians, 102 Dalmatians), this film is to be an origin story. An early draft of the script was done by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada) and the film will be produced by Andrew Gunn.
The project does not have a director attached yet, but the goal is to start shooting later this year.
The character originated in Dodie Smith’s 1956 book, “The Hundred and One Dalmatians.” Smith also briefly revisited the character in her lesser-known science fiction sequel book, “The Starlight Barking,” and Cruella was introduced on the big screen in Disney’s 1961 animated film 101 Dalmatians.
So here is another take on an animated story/character that is being brought to live action. Is this a good idea, or should Disney shift their focus away from animated to live reboots and work on “Tron 3” instead?
