All Of The DC Movies And Their Release Dates… So Far!

HEADER-DC-MOVIE-CALENDAR_2Yesterday we presented you with list of all of the Marvel movies that are scheduled to be released, it is only fair that we give DC equal representation. As it stands, 2016 is shaping up to be a huge year at the box office. Two major DC Comics-based releases are headed our way in the form of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, but that’s just the start of a veritable explosion of comic book-based films from Warner Bros.and DC Entertainment. ComicBookResources.com is reporting that these films will set the stage for almost a dozen more currently on the schedule through 2020, including a standalone Wonder Woman movie and two Justice League films as well as plenty of solo action featuring your favorite heroes.

What we have here are the known release dates and information relating to all of the currently announced slate of DC/WB films. Because this is a complete look at the film’s with confirmed release dates, we haven’t covered movies like the untitled Batman movie starring and directed by Ben Affleck or the long-in-the-works Justice League Dark film.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – March 25, 2016

“Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’ most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.” Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavil as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and is directed by Man of Steel‘s Zack Snyder.

Suicide Squad – August 5, 2016

“It feels good to be bad…” Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated super villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?” Suicide Squad‘s huge cast includes Jared Leto as the Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, Adam Beach as Slipknot and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. The film is written and directed by David Ayer.

The LEGO Batman Movie – February 10, 2017

While no official plot synopsis has been announced, a variety of actors have signed on to voice characters in the film. Ralph Fiennes will voice Alfred Pennyworth, Rosario Dawnson will take on the role of Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Michael Cera will play Dick Grayson/Robin, Zach Galifianakis will portray The Joker, and singer Mariah Carey will lend her voice to Mayor Marion Grange. Will Arnett reprises his role from The LEGO Movie as Batman and the animated film will be directed by Chris McKay.

Wonder Woman – June 23, 2017

BODY Wonder Woman Movie

We’re still not sure exactly what exactly the film will be about, but principle photography is officially underway on “Wonder Woman.” Chris Pine and Gal Gadot were also recently spotted on set in London, dressed in period clothes from the first World War. Pine is officially listed as Captain Steve Trevor, though it’s possible he plays the modern day Steve Trevor’s grandfather, whom Diana meets during WWI. Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Robin Wright (possibly as Diana’s mother), and is directed by Patty Jenkins.

Justice League: Part One – November 17, 2017

BODY JUSTICE LEAGUE

The events that take place in Justice League: Part One will be seeded by “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Zack Snyder has previously confirmed that major justice league characters will have cameos in Batman v Superman, but that their roles will be more prominently featured in this film. Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, and Ben Affleck will reprise their roles in Justice League: Part One. Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, and Ray Fisher will also star as The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg, respectively, with Zack Snyder directing.

The Flash – March 23, 2018

BODY TheFlash EzraMiller

The only casting announcement for The Flash solo movie is Ezra Miller as Barry Allen in the titular role. Miller will also make a cameo appearance in Batman v Superman and will most likely join his fellow heroes as a member of the Justice League in the team’s first two big screen efforts. “The Flash” will be written and directed by Seth Grahame-Smith.

The LEGO Movie Sequel – May 18, 2018

Building on the success of the first LEGO Movie, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are returning to write and produce the second installment of the “LEGO” franchise. Rob Schrab will direct The LEGO Movie sequel — his first feature film directing credit — though he has plenty of experience behind the camera on Community, The Mindy Project, and Parks and Recreation, though it’s possible you may know him for writing and illustrating the indie classic comic book, “Scud: The Disposable Assassin.” No word yet as to which voice actors will be back for the sequel, but it’s very likely Chris Pratt, Will Arnett, and Elizabeth Banks will reprise their roles.

Aquaman – July 27, 2018

BODY Aquaman

Despite not having a release date until 2018, the photo of Jason Momoa pictured above was released in mid-2015. Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder posted it on Twitter late one Friday night and it spread across the web like wildfire. Why did this photo cause such a shock in the DC community? Because Aquaman looks awesome! Fans and critics alike have been skeptical of a standalone film led by Aquaman, and this image put most of those fears to rest. Jason Momoa — who previously starred as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones — will make his Aquaman debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and will then star in Justice League: Part One. Aquaman is written by David Johnson, and will be directed by “Fast 7” director James Wan.

Shazam – April 5, 2019

BODY Shazam

So far, all we know about the standalone “Shazam” film is that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be Black Adam, the title hero’s nemesis. The roles of Bill Batson and Captain Marvel have not yet been cast. And while it’s possible Shazam could connect to the Justice League films, there have been no solid details as of yet.

Justice League: Part Two – June 14, 2019

BODY JUSTICE LEAGUE COMIC

Justice League: Part Two will likely feature a full line-up of heroes: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, Cyborg and even possibly Shazam and Green Lantern. At this time, not much is known except that it could conclude the storyline that is being set up in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” “Justice League: Part Two” will be directed by Zack Snyder.

Cyborg – April 3, 2020

BODY CYBORG

Very little is known about the standalone Cyborg movie at this point except that stage actor Ray Fisher will be portraying the role. Cyborg/Victor Stone will first be introduced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and will co-star in both Justice League: Part One and “Part Two” before going solo.

Green Lantern Corps – June 19, 2020

BODY GREEN LANTERN

DC/Warner Bros. tried to bring Hal Jordan to life in 2011’s Green Lantern film. While the film featured a stellar cast with Ryan Reynolds and Mark Strong, as well as being written by Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, a pair of writers/producers partially responsible for DC’s TV resurgence on shows like Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl. But for whatever reason, the film did not quite hit the mark. The studios hope to try again in 2020, this time by looking beyond a single Lantern and focusing on the entire Corps. While no cast has been announced, news is sure to break as more details on Justice League: Part One come into focus as it begins production later this year.
So now you know it all. Which of these titles excite you? Does Marvel have a better plan with their franchises? Should DC have tried to go for a more unified universe with their movie and TV properties?
