Ryan Reynolds looking to go sci-fi with “Life”

2015 Toronto International Film Festival - 'Mississippi Grind' premiereNow that Ryan Reynolds is in the theaters again, and with everyone ranging from critics to fans singing praises for Deadpool, Deadline is reporting that Reynolds might have new gig lined up as he appears to be in talks to join the cast of the movie Life. As previously reported by the TG Geeks, the story takes place on the International Space Station where the crew has retrieved a small sample from Mars, only to discover that it is displaying signs of life. Not just life, but possibly life even more intelligent and cunning than they had previously expected. If Reynolds signs on he’ll be alongside Rebecca Ferguson who will be headlining the film.

The screenplay for Life has been written by the team of Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the duo behind Deadpool, and is currently to be directed by Daniel Espinosa (Easy Money, Safe House). Skydance’s David Ellison and Dana Goldberg, alongside Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn, are producing the film, with a recently announced release date of December 22, 2017.

Given the serious tone that Life seems to have, is Ryan Reynolds a good match for this, or is he more suited to “irreverent” roles such as Deadpool? Does he have the acting chops that appear to be required for Life?
