Peter Serafinowicz Is The New “Tick”
Amazon’s The Tick has found its titular hero in Guardians of the Galaxy star Peter Serafinowicz.
Ben Edlund, who created the original comic-book character, will serve as writer and executive producer on the pilot, with Barry Josephson also producing.
Both Edlund and Josephson worked on the ill-fated live action Tick series in 2001 for Fox. Wally Pfister will direct and Sony Pictures Television will produce.
Griffin Newman has been cast to play The Tick’s sidekick Arthur, with Valorie Curry playing his sister Dot.
The Tick was originally created by Edlund in the 1980’s. The empty-headed, muscle-bound crime fighter proved so popular that Fox gave him his own animated series in 1994. This was followed by Patrick Warburton‘s live-action series, which lasted for just nine episodes but went on to achieve a cult following.
There has been talk for years about reviving the live-action series. In 2014, Warburton was attached to star in a pilot for the series, also at Amazon, but the project never materialized.
Serafinowicz played Garthan Saal in 2014’s Marvel blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy and voiced Darth Maul in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. He is represented by UTA and Troika in the UK.
