David Wenham has been absent from a lot of “genre work” since his turn as Faramir in The Lord of the Rings, but he’ll be back, both on the big (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) and small screens, and in a story from ComicBook.com the role he’s been cast in is that of Harold Meachum in Marvel’s Iron Fist for Netflix.
Meachum is a ruthless corporate leader who was once the partner of Danny Rand’s father. In the Marvel Comics universe, Meachum’s betrayal of the Rands is partly responsible for Danny coming to live and train in the mystic city of K’un-L’un. Meachum’s role in Danny’s life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be revealed over the course of Iron Fist’s first season.
As with previous casting, this announcement was accompanied by a teaser image released on Marvel.com. The image shows a New York Bulletin newspaper cover reporting that Meachum is ill.
Wenham is joining a cast that already includes Finn Jones as Danny Rand and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.
In Marvel’s Iron Fist, Danny Rand returns to New York City after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.
Iron Fist is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2017.
Is David Wenham a good fit for this particular role? If not, who would you like to see play Meacham, and are there other roles that still need filling, and who would you like to see take those parts?
