“Punisher” to return to Hell’s Kitchen in spin-off series

the-punisher2Apparently you can’t keep a good vigilante, anti-hero, and Punisher down, because Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Netflix and Marvel are choosing to go ahead with a series based on Punisher, especially given his enormous popularity that was generated from his debut during the second season of Daredevil. It was also announced that actor Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as the ex-military man with a vengeance who hands out his own form of vigilante justice in Hell’s Kitchen. Writer and executive producer Steven Lightfoot (Hannibal, Casualty) will serve as show runner for the new series.

This does not appear to alter in any way the development of future Marvel/Netflix projects. Luke Cage and Iron Fist are already well into filming, and there has been no announcement regarding any scheduling changes for the second season of Jessica Jones. There also appears to be nothing said so far regarding any involvement Castle may have in the upcoming series The Defenders, although it’s a fair bet that he will put in an appearance.

Since season 2 of Daredevil served as the origin of The Punisher there are fans that are wondering what direction the new series will go, and if he’ll have any continuing interactions with certain characters who played a huge role in his life during that second season. As for the series itself, Netflix announced the arrival of Punisher by tweeting out this little teaser video to Twitter.

Are you happy that Marvel/Netflix is developing a Punisher series? Given everything that we saw Frank Castle go through on Daredevil, where would you like to see this series go? Would you rather Marvel try to apply more creative energy in integrating the Netflix shows with the rest of their overall Cinematic Universe?
