“God Particle” film sees Chris O’Dowd join cast

godpartChris O’Dowd is known among most “geek fans” from his starring role in the British comedy series The IT Crowd, and gained wider recognition for his role in Thor: The Dark World. Now people will get to see him in a more dramatic role as ComingSoon.net reports that O’Dowd is in final negotiations to join Bad Robot’s upcoming sci-fi film God Particle. The cast already includes David Oyelowo (Selma, Interstellar), John Krasinski (13 Hours, The Office), Elizabeth Debicki (The Night Manager, The Man From U.N.C.L.E.), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Concussion, Beyond the Lights), Daniel Bruhl (Captain America: Civil War, Rush), and Ziyi Zhang (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon).

In God Particle, an American space station is forced to deal with Earth having vanished following an accident with a particle accelerator, and shortly after that the scientists on the station suddenly pick up traces of another space station close by.

The “God Particle” is a theoretical particle in physics which has served as the basis in the understanding of modern quantum physics, and the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, Switzerland was constructed for the purpose of proving the “God Particle,” or more scientifically named Higgs boson, actually exists.

God Particle will be directed by Julius Onah (The Girl is in Trouble). Originally scripted by Freaks of Nature and 22 Jump Street scribe Oren Uziel, the project was since rewritten by Star Beyond‘s Doug Jung. The film is set for a February 24, 2017 release.

O’Dowd will next be seen in Tim Burton’s upcoming summer fantasy film Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.
