Never Tear Us Apart at Fantasia Film Festival
The Two Gay Geeks have received this press release from our good friend Patricia Chica of ChicArt Public Relations about an exciting film that will be showing at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal.
We have an interview with the Director, Sid Zanforlin, that will be released Monday July 18th and our review will be up the day of the screening, the 20th .

Award-winning director Sid Zanforlin, of Attack of the Brainsucker’s fame, is premiering his latest horror comedy Never Tear Us Apart at the Fantasia Film Festival, in Montreal. The bloody cannibalesque tale will be opening for Baaghi on Wednesday July 20th at 10pm at the Hall Theatre of Concordia University. The filmmaker and members of his team will be in attendance.

Never Tear Us Apart (short version) is a ‘proof-of-concept’ for the feature length version presently in development. A young man searches for his grandparents, only to discover they’re crazed, backwoods cannibals.

The short that GEEK CHIC ELITE called “Gory, creepy and a helluva lot of fun” has already played in over a dozen festivals from around the world including its World Premiere at Morbido in Mexico, and will continue its tour in October at Screamfest in Hollywood, among others.
Filmmaker Sid Zanforlin and producer Patricia Gomez Zlatar are attending Fantasia for the duration of the festival, to promote Never Tear Us Apart, and also pitch the feature version of this short, which was initially produced for only $2000 CND as a teaser to test some scenes and special FX. The creators are currently seeking financing, production partners, and distribution for the feature. In addition, the prolific writer-director has also been selected, with his screenplay, at the prestigious Global Script Challenge of the
Oaxaca FilmFest.
“I wrote this script because as a filmmaker, I became obsessed with how a journey to self-discovery might go really wrong. It’s a story that subconsciously depicts my life growing up in Montreal, leaving many times to other cities, but ultimately returning because this is where I ‘fit in’. Never Tear Us Apart is my story, though splattered with a little blood here and there for good measure,” explains the director.
Starring Matt Keyes, Alex Weiner, James Rae, Leigh Ann Taylor, and Mark Krupa, Never Tear Us Apart is directed by Sid Zanforlin, written by Sid Zanforlin and Chris Bavota, produced by Patricia Gomez Zlatar, Sid Zanforlin, Chris Bavota and Matt Keyes. Cinematography by Steeve Desrosiers, Visual FX by Justin Tripp, and Music by Michael Richard Plowman.
Never Tear Us Apart will be included in the much anticipated anthology feature film called Minutes Past Midnight, an Indiecan release slated for October 18th, 2016.

SID ZANFORLIN – Director
Sid Zanforlin is a Chilean-Canadian director that grew up in Montreal. Since graduating from Concordia University and the Canadian Film Centre, he has directed numerous shorts, plays, music videos and television shows. Sid has won a Mecca award for “Theatrical Revelation” of the season for the play “Jesus Hopped the A Train”, has been nominated for a Banff Televisionaward for Best Children’s program(Prank Patrol) and his short “Attack of the Brainsucker” has won seven awards including Best Short (Gold) at the Fantasia Film Festival. He is developing his first feature “Never Tear Us Apart”and his television shows “Studio 2” and “Goremet Monsters”. Concurrently, Sid Zanforlin is series director for the Discovery Series “Fatal Vows”.

Synopsis
Longtime friends James and Colin travel down a path in the middle of the woods looking for James’ long lost grandparents. When they arrive at a dilapidated cabin, they quickly realize they’re in the wrong place when two backwoods cannibals become aware of their presence and chase them off. Lost in the woods, they need to figure a way back home if they hope to survive.

Never Tear Us Apart is a short that is meant to showcase a feature I wrote about finding out one’s place in the world; where one belongs. It’s a story about a young man on a journey to finding out his identity has roots both in his cannibal birth parents and also with the culture of his adoptive parents. As an Anglo, Latino, Quebecois/Canadian, I can relate.
I wrote this script because as a filmmaker, I became obsessed with how a journey to self- discovery might go really wrong. What horrors could await someone on the other side? It’s a story that subconsciously depicts my life growing up here in Montreal, leaving many times to other cities but ultimately returning because this is where I “fit in”. In essence, I am using the horror genre as a metaphor for the recurring themes I have been grappling with. Never Tear Us Apart is my story, though splattered with a little blood here and there for good measure.
Some of my favourite films, An American Werewolf in London, The Thing, Psycho, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre deal with identity and family issues. These are the films that have inspired Never Tear Us Apart. All rooted in real drama and horror, these films also knew when to add accents of dark humour and to be over-the-top with graphic violence and when to concentrate on character development. Always keeping fun as the main goal, Never Tear Us Apart is meant to be a character driven, frightening, gory thrill ride with overtones of dark comedy.
