A “significant” character on one of the CW/DC shows is gay

upload-105-b7b73We here at TG2 Studios were thrilled when we learned of some details for the upcoming shows from the CW‘s informative presentation during this year’s Television Critics Association event. The villain Savitar will appear on The Flash, Dolph Lundgren will guest on Arrow, and two new superheroes will have a part to play in Supergirl. But most excitedly (at least for us), it was revealed that one character from on of the CW’s four DC shows (Arrow, Flash, Supergirl or Legends of Tomorrow) will come out as gay over the course of the upcoming season.

“One of the characters on one of the shows is going to be exploring their sexuality and coming out,” said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, as reported at Entertainment Weekly. “We’re very excited about that.”

The executive producers gathered at the event, which also included Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, did not reveal the character or identify which of the four shows they appear on. “It is a significant character,” said Berlanti said. “The only reason we wouldn’t [say] is we really want the audience to enjoy the character developments and not necessarily be ahead of the storyline.”

Variety report noted that Schechter jokingly added, “It’s a man or a woman, and it’s on one of the four shows.”

Alternatively, Deadline’s report pointed towards fan speculation that Jeremy Jordan’s Supergirl character Winn Schott could be the character in question.

The CW DC shows, or Arrowverse, is home to a number of LGBT characters, including Curtis Holt and Nyssa al Ghul on Arrow and Sara Lance on Legends of Tomorrow among others.

The CW’s season of superhero shows kicks off with the return of The Flash on October 4.

Is the CW going too far by revealing that another significant character from the CW/DC shows is gay? As the story has explained, there have already been a few gay relationships and characters throughout the CW shows, so is the CW pushing it with this tease? Do you have any ideas as to who this character may be?
