Netflix bringing “Punisher” in 2017

the-punisher-netflix-series-logo-fan-made-204472For some time there has been speculation as to when Netflix would bring the series Marvel’s The Punisher to their roster of programming. Well speculate no more because it has been officially confirmed from Marvel itself that the release date will be sometime in 2017.

In addition to this news of the premiere date, Marvel also gave an announcement regarding five additional cast members who will be joining Marvel’s The Punisher, and those actors are:

Daniel Webber (11.22.63) has been cast as Lewis Walcott, “a young veteran who has had a difficult time re-assimilating into Civilian Society.”

Jason R. Moore (A Lonely Place for Dying) plays Curtis Hoyle, a friend of Frank Castle and one of the very few people who know that Castle is still alive. In the Marvel Comics universe, Hoyle is a veteran who met Castle in Vietnam.

Paul Schulze (Nurse Jackie) will play Rawlins, a high-ranking member of the CIA whose operations in Afghanistan lead him to cross paths with Castle. Rawlins is a character from the Punisher MAX comic book series.

Jaime Ray Newman (Bates Motel) plays Sarah Lieberman, the wife of Micro, the Punisher’s tech support/sidekick, played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach). Micro’s involvement with the Punisher greatly complicates his marriage to Sarah.

“We couldn’t have asked for a more talented group of actors to round out the cast of Marvel’s The Punisher,” said Executive Producer and showrunner Steve Lightfoot. “It’s a thrill to watch them each bring their characters to life with such layered, nuanced performances.”

“Marvel TV is very proud of the cast of The Punisher,” said Executive Producer Jeph Loeb, “Each actors brings a special promise who surround Jon Bernthal’s exceptional performance.”

Deborah An Woll will reprise her role as Karen Page from Marvel’s Daredevil for Marvel’s The Punisher, alongside star Jon Bernthal as the Punisher himself, Frank Castle. Bernthal debuted in the role in Marvel’s Daredevil Season 2.

Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal) is writing the first two episodes of Marvel’s The Punisher for Netflix and will serve as series showrunner and Executive Producer. Jim Chory and Jeph Loeb are also executive producers.

With this new show it will mark the first time Marvel is releasing three Netflix series in one year; the pattern so far has been two per year. 2017 will also bring Iron Fist and The Defenders team-up miniseries, both of which made big impressions at this year’s New York Comic-Con.

Hardcore fans know that Punisher has already been filming around New York City for a bit, so it’s not shocking to hear that Netflix will be airing the series next year.

Daredevil seasons 1 and 2, Jessica Jones season 1, and Luke Cage season 1 are all available on Netflix. Iron Fist will premiere on March 17, 2017. The Defenders expected later in the year. Marvel’s The Punisher will also air sometime in 2017.
