“Pacific Rim: Maelstrom” begins production

pacific-rim-2-header-1-1John Boyega (Star Wars VIII: The Force Awakens) took to Instagram and revealed that cameras have officially started rolling on the upcoming Pacific Rim sequel, as well as confirming the title for the film. Long rumored, Boyega posted a photo of the script’s cover page, confirming it will be Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.

The film will be distributed by Universal Pictures around the world with the exception of China. Pacific Rim: Maelstrom will arrive in theaters February 23, 2018.

The original Pacific Rim hit theaters in summer 2013 and grossed $101 million at the domestic box office. It went on to take in over $411 million worldwide. The first one starred Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman.
