The streaming service that has been the repository for old TV series and movies, as well as blockbuster original series, is now importing arelatively new work from “North Hollywood,” or better known as Canada. Netflix is gearing up to debut a new sci-fi series, and the first trailer looks like a mash-up of things that sci-fi fans really, really like.
Dubbed Travelers, the series comes from former Stargate SG-1 producer Brad Wright and focuses on a team of time travelers who travel to the present in an effort to avert a pending apocalypse. Think of it is like Odyssey 5, meets Quantum Leap, Continuum and 12 Monkeys. The first trailer does a good job of setting up the premise and stakes, and this certainly looks like it could make for an entertaining winter distraction for genre fans.
The series stars Eric McCormack (Will & Grace) in the lead, but the supporting roster is sprinkled with a few familiar faces for Stargate fans, including Teryl Rothery, Louis Ferreira and Patrick Gilmore. The first season debuted on Canada’s Showcase network earlier this year, and Netflix has snagged the U.S. rights for the entire run.
The entire first season of Travelers premieres Friday, Dec. 23, on Netflix.
