Tuesday afternoon the Two Gay Geeks traded their TG2 Studios for opera studios… Arizona Opera to be precise, as we had the immense pleasure of interviewing President and General Manager of Arizona Opera, Joseph Specter, along with operatic luminaries Alek Shrader and his wife Daniela Mack. Daniela will be singing the title role in Giacomo Rossini’s comic masterpiece La Cenerentola, and her husband Alek will be singing the role of “Prince Charming” for Arizona Opera’s Friday night performance.
We met in the upstairs conference room at the offices of Arizona Opera where we all sat around a table, talked about this season at AZ Opera, what we have to look forward to next season, some of the challenges that singers face with an ever changing and evolving voice, as well as preferred roles in opera. Along the way there were quite a few laughs, plenty of insights were offered, as well as why opera could appeal to geeks from all different walks of life.
Special thanks go out to Arizona Opera’s Marketing Manager, Caitie Quick, for making this opportunity possible, as well as Joe, Alek and Daniela, for taking time out of their busy day to sit with us for this interview.
It’s safe to say that both Keith and I were living up to our podcast name as we were geeking out in a huge way!!!
