Warner Bros. clearly has a passion for their DC content given the push for not only their live action films, but also for their direct to video animated properties. One such film that had been given the animated treatment, Justice League: Dark, is now being worked on for a live-action adaptation, and according to Deadline the script is to be polished by Gerard Johnstone (Housebound), but the film is presently without a director as Doug Liman has reportedly left the project to work on Chaos Walking, and Andy Muschietti is apparently working on a sequel for It, not to mention the eventual upcoming live adaptation of Robotech for Sony. Deadline also reports that the movie will center on John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan the Demon.
In addition, Variety’s Justin Kroll tweeted the following about the DCU. He said,
“So hearing at the earliest, SUICIDE SQUAD 2 won’t go in to production until fall 2018 because of Smith’s schedule with ALADDIN and GEMINI. If that film doesn’t even go in to production till late 2018, when exactly would this HARLEY-JOKER spin-off happen.”
[Ed: It has been reported that the sequel to Suicide Squad is on the fast track.]
The comic book “Justice League Dark” team made their debut during DC’s “New 52” publishing initiative in 2011. A paranormal-leaning super team, the group featured the likes of John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Zatanna, Frankenstein, Deadman, Madame Xanadu, and The Phantom Stranger among its ranks. Prior to Liman’s involvement, Guillermo del Toro had been attached to direct the Justice League: Dark movie with all sorts of rumors swirling about whom he planned to feature in the film’s cast.
Although the Justice League: Dark movie was previously known as “Dark Universe”, Universal Pictures appears to have now officially claimed that name for their upcoming Universal monsterverse. Gerard Johnstone is known for writing and directing Housebound, as well as the TV series Terry Teo and The Jaquie Brown Diaries. Johnstone was reportedly one of the people hoping to direct Justice League Dark.

Is Gerard Johnstone the right person for polishing the script, and who would you like to see serve as the director for this film? Is this even a film that Warner Bros. should be making?
