Brian Augustyn’s Gotham by Gaslight is something that we have been terribly excited about for several years now, so naturally we here at TG2 Studios were thrilled when Warner Bros. announced news of an animated feature of this fantastic story.
Written by Augustyn, drawn by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, and inked by P. Craig Russell, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight is part of the DC Comics Elseworlds line, and was released in 1989 where Batman is reimagined as a Victorian era vigilante-detective investigating the serial killer of Jack the Ripper.
The feature has already received and R-rating, and this new Batman: Gotham by Gaslight trailer provides our first look at this new Batman adventure.
The premise is a simple, yet compelling one that asks, what if the notorious (and yet to be apprehended) Jack The Ripper came from “across the pond” and ended up in Gotham City? Is there anyone equipped to handle such a monster? Is there anyone intelligent enough with the detective skills to determine who he really is, and then deal with him?
In an age of mystery and superstition, how would the people of Gotham react to a weird creature of the night, a bat-garbed vigilante feared by the guilty and the innocent alike? The very first Elseworlds tale re-imagines the Dark Knight detective in Victorian times and pits him against the infamous murderer Jack the Ripper.
Gotham by Gaslight also features the voice of Jennifer Carpenter as Selina Kyle and Anthony Head as Batman’s loyal butler Alfred. Batman: Gotham by Gaslight comes to Blu-ray and digital in 2018.
