Saturday Social: Mysterious Galaxy
As an omnivert, I like to be in public without necessarily being in public if you know what I mean. From that you can read, I like bookstores.
You know. places that people go to find happiness but also places where I don’t actually have to talk to anyone unless I want to. Also known as, places to find my people and the book-shaped friends that keep me out of maximum security prison…
So for this “Social Saturday,” we’re talking about Mysterious Galaxy (MG) in San Deigo, CA.
Founded in 1993 by Terry Gilman, Maryelizabeth Hart, and Jeff Mariotte.
Currently run by Terry and Maryelizabeth, MG is an independent genre bookstore specializing in all things science fiction, fantasy, mystery and horror (these are a few of my favorite things *in my Julie Andrews voice* ) that’s still in the business of serving the community twenty-five years later.
The store layout makes finding your preferred genre relatively easy and provides adequate space for wandering and book pile-making. And their recently redesigned website is user-friendly and likely to keep you clicking for all the info.
MG is more than just a bookstore though, on any given day there’s something on the event calendar sure to lure you through its doors.
The store’s a staple gathering place for the bookish amongst the populous and keeps adding activities to keep its customers happy.

*If the YA genre’s your thing a newly minted book club featuring young adult novels kicks off with The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton with its first book discussion April 26th. If you’re a local hit up the interest meeting Thursday, April 5th to find out the good word.
