The panel discussion on YouTube Red’s Original Series Impulse was a standout from Day 2 of WonderCon 2018.
The teaser trailer for the show alone had the audience hyped to know more:
Panelist: Doug Liman, Gene Klein (Executive Producers), Lauren LeFranc (Showrunner) and stars Missi Pyle, Maddie Hasson, and Daniel Maslany hit the WonderCon stage to answer questions and share never-before-seen footage from the coming first season.
Returning to the World of Jumper
Impulse is loosely based on the second book in the Jumper series by Steven Gould. YouTube Red’s story features Henry – Henrietta – Coles (Maddie Hasson) as a rebellious sixteen-year-old. Henry does feel like her peers and wants nothing more than to escape from her seemingly quaint small town. She soon discovers she has the extraordinary ability to teleport. This newfound power confirms her conviction that she really was different from everybody else, but it now makes her the focus of those who want to control her.
During the panel discussion, director Doug Liman explained this sequel gave him the opportunity to return and do all things he didn’t feel he “got right” in Jumper even better. This time around, the episodic format leaves room for more story about the trials of the characters, more development so we can see how Henry comes into her own and the opportunity to dive into the emotional ties and relationships between characters.
Impulse begins streaming on YouTube Red this summer.
Sometimes the best bit of convention-going is camping out in a room where the magic’s likely to happen. This year, Room 200A was frequently the place to be; so stay tuned because there more great news to share with from WonderCon 2018.
