First, let me say THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us by listening to our webcast, visiting our site, and commenting on our posts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
We would not be here without ALL of you.
So, what is this all about?
Well, do you have a moment? It may take a little bit of exposition to get to the real reason for this post.
If you just do a simple search on Google for number of websites you will discover that there are over 1.8 Billion (hold pinky to face) websites in the world. That is a lot and we rank somewhere in the top 200th of one percent (I will explain the math later on) of all of those websites. Pretty impressive number if you think about it. However, of those 1.8 Billion only about 200 Million are “active”, the others are dead or as our friend Chuck over at Technoarama says, “It’s just a parked domain name.” And of those 200 Million an estimated 43% or 86 Million are in the United States. So, if you do the math on that we are in the top 4% of those sites.
Now, I know some of you are saying, “Where in the heck (or some other colorful metaphor) is he coming up with these numbers?” As I said earlier I would explain the math and here goes:
Alexa.com tracks 30 Million websites globally and our top 10 % ranking is based on the tracking of those sites. Our certified ranking number is 3,176,784 (yeah it is 10.5 but…) based on how Alexa is tracking our traffic. Now comes the woofy part of the math; it is more of an extrapolation based on information the above available on the internets. If we assume that Alexa tracks the 30M websites globally and that of all active websites roughly half are in the US, then 15M is our number to use for our Alexa certified US rank at 983,108 or the top 6% in the US. When we originally started looking at the numbers back in May we were at 9,960,639, so I would say that is pretty impressive. Most of it due to our daily publishing.
Of course, the numbers fluctuate daily based on our traffic and the traffic of all of the sites tracked. But I would say we have made a rather impressive ranking for a website that has been in operation for 4+ years, was originally only for our webcast and a few reviews, has no funding source (except out of our own pockets (I stand corrected, we have made a whole $21.00 over the four years; one $10.00 donation and $11.00 from Amazon)), and has a staff of seven folks that write for us (for free, THANK YOU), and we recently started publishing daily content.
Once again, to ALL of our Contributors, Listeners, Readers, Facebook Friends and Likes, Twitter Followers, and Instagram followers, a Gigantic THANK YOU. We do this for you.
