News Sushi #47: Morsels of News from Japan and Beyond
Editor Note:It is Friday and that means it is time for the World Famous, soon to be Intergalactic Famous, News Sushi from our very own, Hamish Downie. Hamish brings us a decidedly different slant on Pop Culture as viewed through the lens of a non-native living in Japan.
Thank you Hamish, for your insights.
It’s Friday… so the wait is over for the latest News Sushi! Hopefully by the time you read this, I’ll have released the press release for the reshoots we just did. If not, it’s because I’m snowed under with work. That’s what happens when you make a film with no money, time is your only friend.
Hurry up and wait! A real life case thanks to David Chester, a screenwriter and voice actor based in Tokyo!
SPOTLIGHT: Apricot Groves
From last year’s Kansai Queer Film Festival comes “Apricot Groves”.
Here’s the only synopsis I could find:
“Aram Aram, an Iranian Armenian who left his fatherland in his childhood to live in the United States, is now returning home for the first time in order to apply for a Armenian girlfriend he met and who lives in America. On a one-day trip, Aram sees a multitude of cultural, religious and national differences, but there are even more obstacles before him.”
Here’s a beautiful moment from the film:
Look for the film coming soon… somewhere. Looks like a beautiful film.
If you want to see what the film is up against in it’s own country… look no further than here:
