News Sushi #83: Morsels of News from Japan and Beyond
Editor Note:It is Friday and that means it is time for the World Famous, soon to be Intergalactic Famous, News Sushi from our very own, Hamish Downie. Hamish brings us a decidedly different slant on Pop Culture as viewed through the lens of a non-native living in Japan.
Thank you (ありがとうございました) Hamish, for your insights.
こんにちは!Which means “Hello”!
How’s your week going? I’ve had an odd couple of weeks. Almost like I’m Max from Max and the Multiverse (I highly recommend the first two books in the series… but, in my opinion, it really jumps the shark in the third – but, that’s shouldn’t stop you from buying it and supporting indie creators – after all, it has the answer to the cliffhanger in the second book). Anyway, it seems that I went on a holiday, and somehow stepped into an alternative universe when I came back. A little like the part where Max returns to find all his friends hate him for no reason… except in my case, it’s just one person. But, hey, how well do we really know each other? In my case, perhaps not very well. So, here I am, reporting from bizarre-o world! Ready for another week of amazing creativity!
To aid our trip into bizarre-o world… here’s a great new ambient track from
Siddhartha Barnhoorn using a vintage synth machine:
Contrarah, screenwriter and creator of the Beyond Bechdel podcast (we interviewed her a while back in News Sushi), has released a wonderful short film… “IN A HOLE”.
“Carefree spirit Liza is minding her own business when she accidentally discovers Beth. Are they too far away from one another, or can friendship between strangers bridge the gap?”
Good morning. With a deep breath I provide to you a link to my short “In a Hole” please check it out here https://t.co/MWuDoniEkq #Filmmaking #newfilm #shortfilm #wowhashtagsseenoldfashioned

Wouldn’t this make a great story…
wish I owned an occult shop where periodically, young adults steal cursed objects with severe but humorous consequences.

Domino’s Pizza in Japan is serving up 1kg (2.20462lbs) of cheese… is your stomach ready for all this goodness?
Domino's Japan has a pizza with 1kg of cheese on it. My co-worker said he ate it for dinner last night. I doubt he could finish it alone… pic.twitter.com/90zjYKfQjL

And here comes the age old question that I’m sure is keeping you up at night…
Do Japanese Girls like Beards? Youtuber Yuta is on the case to find out…
While the vast majority of Japanese girls responded that they didn’t like facial hair (hence the looks of most J-Pop Idol groups). It’s important for me to note that a former co-worker of mine, who was a overweight, balding ginger man with a long straggly beard managed to find a girlfriend in this fine country that I call my second home… Japan.
In other news… Animal has been recreated as a Kurosawa Samurai…

You’re welcome.
Halloween is coming up, isn’t it? For those of you Daddy-o’s wanting to save a few bucks and buy a cheap-o wig… here’s a helpful little video to show you how to make that cheap and nasty wig look nice! Thanks Jaymes!
Go give Jaymes a follow on: https://twitter.com/JaymesMansfield
Thanks to Darryl, I watched this fabulous microshort film… for those who aren’t American, an Amber Alert is the child abduction emergency alert to ask the public for help in finding abducted children. Now you know the backstory that probably took longer to read than the video… we are ready!
This is a great short film. Six shots in :48 seconds to tell the story. 🔥🔥👏🏾👏🏾 https://t.co/gCsrxw0nwW

For those who like great comebacks (or as the kids call them… “burns”)… here’s a great burn about not being burnt… take that racism!
“Too sunburned” lol that’s wild. Little did they know, with Shiseido anessa perfect uv sunscreen I never get sunburned 😊😊😊 https://t.co/VZHJlsLp62

And that really leads us to almost the end of another week… but, before we go, it’s my little effort to counter the racism found in so many gay publications (and straight ones too) that would lead people to believe that Asian men are not attractive or masculine. Here’s this week’s shot…
HOT LINK OF THE WEEK
So, with that it’s bye, bye from me!
Have a great week!
