News Sushi #97: Morsels of News from Japan and Beyond

News Sushi #97 And we (Hamish) keep serving the best News Sushi!
Editor Note:It is Friday and that means it is time for the World Famous, soon to be Intergalactic Famous, News Sushi from our very own, Hamish Downie. Hamish brings us a decidedly different slant on Pop Culture as viewed through the lens of a non-native living in Japan.

Thank you (ありがとうございました) Hamish, for your insights.

こんにちは!Which means “Hello”!

I hope this week’s column doesn’t feel too much like an infomercial, but so many of my creative friends have been creating amazing content… so I need to share them with you.

First up is a friend of a friend of mine (thanks for sharing Adam)… American Idol finalists, David Hernandez & Effie Passero come together to form the dynamic power duo, 2nd Hour. Their beautiful new Single: “What I See” is available now:

Check out the music video right here!

Secondly, here is my former roommate Matt, who I’ve interviewed before, was did this great interview on himself and Cheerleading in Japan a year ago – and I’m only just finding out about it now… so please check it out!

Next up is another former interviewee, Marie Campbell who has a new book coming out this month on her journey of turning her book on her mother into a script…

COMING SOON – FEBRUARY 2020! New Book: FROM BOOK TO FILM. From Book to Film is not a ‘how-to guide’ on writing either a book or a screenplay. It’s an account of my personal journey, as a new author, writing, promoting and pitching both my book Olga – A Daughter’s Tale and the screenplay based on my book, Olga. A journey that has brought joy and frustration, in unequal measure – some joy and a lot of frustration! I thought it worth sharing my experience, since it may assist new writers who are thinking about writing either a book or screenplay from making the same mistakes I did. I’ve written honestly about the highs, the lows, the successes, the mistakes, and sometimes, the luck that I had with both the book and the screenplay. I will be running a giveway competition for both books, Olga – A Daughter's Tale and From Book to Film, shortly after publication. Follow me for updates. If you would like more information about either one of my books or my screenplay, leave a comment. Thanks.. #frombooktomovie #adaptingbooktofil #screenplaywriting #newwriters

Watch this space for when it comes out officially!

She’s not the only former interviewee that has a new book coming out. Next up we have Naomi McDougall Jones, whose book “The Wrong Kind of Woman” has hit #1 in new releases on Amazon – congratulations!

Her book is a brutally honest look at the systemic exclusion of women in film–an industry with massive cultural influence–and how, in response, women are making space in cinema for their voices to be heard.

My copy is supposed to be coming around Valentines Day. It’ll be out now by the time this gets published. Please click the affiliate link above to support this page – and who knows, maybe in another five years Ben and Keith will get another whole ten dollars from Amazon! Woo!

Or if you don’t want them to wait a decade for Ben and Keith to be able to both get a meal from McDonalds… there is a donate button above… (hint, hint)

Gosh, this really is an informercial now… so, let’s embrace it!

Next up is the costume designer from my short film, “An American Piano” – Lexee and her two sisters who have a new podcast, named after their website, “Flirting with Travel”. The first episode is about Lexee’s challenge to herself to visit 30 countries before she turned 30. An awesome challenge. Perhaps I should try and visit 50 countries before I turn 50?

It’s available in the same places where you get the Two Gay Geeks podcasts, so you know what to do! Subscribe!

Onto the next… this project, I’ve done two interviews for, with the director, and with the executive producer… and for those in the UK and the US… it’s now available on Amazon Prime.

I hope you all enjoy “Stay”!

Next up is the kindest man on Film Twitter (perhaps all of Twitter)… Chris Watt, whose musical “Happily Ever After” goes into rehearsals this week… give the instagram a follow!

Here’s another interviewee, Kaori Takee, showing what can be achieved if you hire her as your trainer! Go Kaori!

And finally, someone I’ve never met in my life…

Hope you all have a great week, and look forward to next week’s “5 Questions” as it’s going to be a good one!
