Editor Note: Hamish has another in his series of Five Questions With…
Hamish came up with this idea because he was accumulating too much material for his Famous News Sushi column and asked if he could do these mini-interviews. Why would we say no?
Thank you Hamish for being such a trooper for us. We really appreciate all for your hard work.
Let us know what you think of these interviews in the comments below.
TGG: I (Hamish) recently had the pleasure of appearing on a lovely new podcast called “Let Me Draw That”. I had such a wonderful time that I had to return the favor and interview him for you today. Chris, can you please introduce yourself to our readers?
CR: Hi! My name is Chris Rodriguez. I am an artist from the Twin Cities area in the US.
TGG: Can you tell us about your latest project, your podcast!
CR: I am currently working on a Podcast called “Let Me Draw That”. I have been looking for positive influence for my art, so I decided to interview people about positive experiences they’ve had. I put the interview out as a podcast, and then pair that with a piece of art that I put on instagram. I also encourage others to try and be inspired by the story and send in their own art.
TGG: I’m just going to share the art so far… Here’s the art from episode one:
Here’s the art from episode two:
And here’s the art from episode three (my episode – yes, of course I talked about Prince! The podcast is based in the Twin Cities – how could I not?):
TGG: What inspires your art (could it be the city you are from)?
CR: Lately, because of the podcast, it’s been mostly stories that other people tell me. But I also draw a lot of inspiration from local artists (visual and performing). I also watch a ton of animated shows and movies, and draw heavy inspiration from shows like: Avatar the Last Airbender, Gravity Falls, She-ra; the list could go on for a while.
TGG: So, what’s next for you?
CR: Right now I am working mostly freelance gigs. Like many, Covid-19 cost me my job, so I am picking up what I can, where I can!
TGG: I’m really sorry to hear that. So, the final question is more important than ever… How can we best support you? (listen to your podcast, buy your art, hire you, follow you on social media etc)
CR: Consider checking out the Podcast! You can find it anywhere you listen to your podcasts. The main site is here: https://let-me-draw-that.zencast.website/
Follow @lmdtcast on instagram to keep in touch with me, and see the art from the cast. You can also use that to get in touch with me if you’re looking to commission any work.
TGG: Thanks for having me on, and thanks for being interviewed! And thanks for the beautiful art! I don’t usually do this… but, going on the podcast was such a wonderful experience. When I was first asked, tell me about a moment in your life that brings you joy… well, as I’m a negative person, I immediately thought, well, nothing… but, I loved the podcast so much it forced me to really think about all the joyous moments in my life, and it was quite life-changing. So many wonderful things have happened to me, and it was such a powerful exercise to force yourself to focus on joy. Thank you Chris!
