Editor Note:It is Friday and that means it is time for the World Famous, soon to be Intergalactic Famous, News Sushi from our very own, Hamish Downie. Hamish brings us a decidedly different slant on Pop Culture as viewed through the lens of a non-native living in Japan.

Thank you (ありがとうございました) Hamish, for your insights.

こんにちは!Which means “Hello”!

Another week goes by… hopefully by the time this is published I’ll be able to say that my feature film has been finished and delivered to the good people at Gagaoolala. But, as of writing, that seems like a distant, but oh so close dream. Speaking of which, congratulations to all the winners of the GOL Summit GPS prizes. I’m looking forward to watching your films.

I can share with you that a short film I wrote, “Night Disclosure”, has wrapped production and moves into post. And here’s a still:

And a behind the scenes shot:

This project was helmed by AJ Mattioli and stars some great actors in NYC. I’m really excited to see the results!

And now… this is the content you came here for…

Yes, a random bike covered in leeks. That’s the post. Speaking on onions…

Facebook reminded me that 5 years ago, I ate Wasabi Ice Cream for the first time. It’s something that I’ve always used as an example of teaching the slight nuance of “I’d rather” vs “prefer” i.e. Would you rather eat Wasabi Ice Cream or Garlic Ice Cream (also a real thing, at a Garlic Festival in California)? Usually people choose the Wasabi. And with some good reason, it’s actually very nice. It’s basically a vanilla ice cream with a slight kick of wasabi.

I imagine the same is true of Garlic Ice Cream, which according to the festival’s website is a honey vanilla ice cream with a kick of Garlic on top.

So, which would you rather? Tell us @tggeeks, and Ben and Keith might read out your messages on their podcast, and you’ll be famous!

Maybe not internet cat famous, but famous. Which gives me an excuse to rewatch (and share with you), MR. CAT! My favourite youtube cartoon about a cat becoming famous:

If you are feeling hungry, let me show you a 110 yen Burger from a fast food restaurant.

And also, let me show you how a plucky hotel in Japan is trying to sell Natto (fermented soy beans that are both slimy and smell awful – but are very healthy and good for your gut)….

If it’s too small, it reads, “Fruit Granola”.

And on that note, that’s a wrap on another week of News Sushi! Cheerio!

P.S.
