こんにちは!Which means “Hello”!

Happy 2021! The year begins much like the last year ended, with a lot of the world in lockdown, but we have a vaccine to look forward to, so I hope you are safe, and your loved ones are safe too.

Recently, my short film “Silence”, made its debut on the Lesflicks platform:

This is a streaming platform which is run by and for lesbians, so please go out and support it.

I also found a new podcast this week, which is all about Japanese convenience stores, if it sounds like a Seinfield episode, that is
exactly what it’s like, except instead of debating about cereal, the hosts debate about the best classic and new release food in the Japanese “combini”. Here’s a new product, vegetarian meat buns:

So, please check out their podcast by following the links via twitter.

Thea Riley drops New Instrumental Album “Sleepy Wolf”

Trance artist, Thea Riley, who has also released the soundtrack to my short film, “Silence” to streaming platforms recently, has also dropped a new instrumental album, “Sleepy Wolf”

data-instgrm-permalink="https://www.instagram.com/p/CJx5D1YDP6z/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading" data-instgrm-version="13" style=" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);">

According to her Patreon:

“this is an instrumental hour of music, inspired by improvisations, jam sessions on my own, songs written for video game characters that
died in a cut scene (which I’m still sad about xP), & really really really old songs that I never thought would have a purpose. This
album is the sound of my brain at peace and for that it is the one that I love the most. I really hope you love it as much as I do.”

THE MIRE enters final days of CROWDFUNDING

“The Mire” is an indie film in pre-production that was written by Scottish Screenwriter and Novelist, Chris Watt (who I’ve interviewed
twice for this website).

'We Are The
Canon'
from Tom
Byrne
on Vimeo.

From the crowdfunding page:

The Mire is the new feature film coming from the minds of Apple Park Films and Familiar Stranger Films – two South England production
companies ready to make an impact on the UK Film Landscape.

Director Adam Nelson is the creative mind behind award winning short film Emotional Motor Unit, and the National Film Award nominated
feature film Little Pieces. Following on from the themes of family, belonging, and society found in Nelson’s other work, The Mire examines
the dangers of what can happen when those looking for a family and belonging are seduced by charismatic lies, and what happens when their
reality curdles.

With the support of our contributors and backers we will be able to put this gripping and intense story of Joseph, Marshall, and Hannah on
film. The story of three lost people trapped in a web of their own creation and racing towards the deadliest of conclusions.

Scriptwriter Chris Watt had this to say about his awakening to the story of The Mire:

“I wrote The Mire with the intention of creating a small exploitation horror. What emerged in the end was something far closer to a
thriller, a tight, time-is-running-out piece that feels far more immediate and relevant, a film about the phenomenon of cults and the
impact it can have on a group of characters. I’ve always been interested in exploring the nature of greed and belief in the 21st
Century and the thin line between faith and obsession, particularly the nature of manipulation against the vulnerable and easily
influenced, and so the three main characters represent many of these things, and in the character of Joseph Layton, the leader of the
fictional cult known as The Canon, lies the moral precipice, a man of lies, whose deception finally catches up with him. 100 pages of
screenplay later, this is a story that will lead you down a dark path that you never expected.”

NEON BOYS pulled from STREAMING SERVICES

I try to keep this a politics free zone, but I’ll have to make an exception for this press release. As some of you may remember, I
interviewed AJ Mattioli a while back for the release of his wonderful short film, “Neon Boys”. Recently, it has been pulled from all
streaming platforms, and I’ll let AJ let you know why in the following statement:

data-instgrm-permalink="https://www.instagram.com/p/CJymKxYhqLT/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading" data-instgrm-version="13" style=" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);">

Hopefully the film can be re-edited and it will be back up on streaming services soon.
