Thank you (ありがとうございました) Hamish, for your insights.

こんにちは!Which means “Hello”!

Welcome back to Friday! So much has happened in the world… but, let me just say a quick update. My feature film has officially achieved picture lock (again), and now we are finalising the sound and score, so hopefully something to announce soon. Paul has re-done the colour, and it looks so beautiful, I think it’s his best work!

Thanks to my Mum and Sister’s hard work with our family tree, we have
discovered that we are related to an acting family on my paternal great-grandmother’s side, including Annie Saker, star of stage and at least one film, “The Lifeguardsman” (1916), and has her portrait in the National Portrait Gallery. It’s amazing when I used to think that my sister and I came from no-where and suddenly both wanted to do acting and film, but actually, we are continuing a family legacy.

OK! Let’s get into this week’s column!

You might remember I interviewed Shawna a couple of weeks ago about her film “LoverGirl”, and she’s back with a crowdfunding campaign for a new WLW film, “Popping the Question”.

The story: It’s the most romantic day of the year, and Nina has a super special dinner planned for Lizzie, her girlfriend of three years. Nina intends to propose to Lizzie, but little does she know, Lizzie has some big news of her own…

Says Shawna,”I’m really excited to share the Indiegogo for Popping the Question with you. I can’t wait to bring Nina’s and Lizzie’s story to life, but we can’t do it without support from the community.

Find out more about the film below, claim a perk, and share the campaign within your circle. Let’s harness the power of community to make this beautiful queer film! Thank you!”

“LoverGirl” alum, Heather Muriel Nguyen returns with Tho, a film about an asexual POC, played by an asexual POC!

As Thơ (Heather Muriel Nguyen) ventures into romance, her friends and partners misconstrue her unapologetic Queerness. Questioning whether she’s not actually who she thinks she is, she’s pressured to be valued by them or fight for herself.

Like its heroine, this film is unflinching in its honesty. Despite painful memories, she learns that self-love is inconsistent but precious. It’s an authentic take on sexual trauma, but also empowering Queer representation. We’d love to share it with you!

Ali of MOVIES OVER THE RAINBOW starts new website

From Ali:

“Since you have always been so supportive of my work, I wanted to let you know that I retired Movies OVER The Rainbow at the very beginning of the year. I hit a creative dead end with it and after over a year of hemming and hawing about what to do; I decided to just move on. But in its place, I did start up a new website. You can check it out if
you like –

http://alicat3955.com/

I’m still building the new website and it will only be for fun; just a place to get out my thoughts and short stories. So far I am enjoying it and finding new creative inspiration thanks to making the change.

I will be adding some of my reviews from Movies OVER The Rainbow to the section on the new website called “Letters About Movies”. I have
slowly been turning my favorite film reviews from Movies OVER The Rainbow into letters. I only have one letter up currently on the new website – http://alicat3955.com/hedwig/. But I hope to add more eventually.

I also have some short film reviews on the new website that I am finding a lot of fun to write because they are only a few sentences long and I say exactly what is on my mind – http://alicat3955.com/quick-reviews/

For fun and giggles, I have a section on the new website I call Stoned Thoughts – http://alicat3955.com/stoned-thoughts/. These are literally the thoughts that I have while I am vaping on my medical marijuana. This is a lot of fun and makes me giggle at the crazy thoughts that come out of my head. I have always been my own best audience. But even though they are stoned thoughts, they are honest thoughts too, so it is interesting to see what kind of a person I really am.

But mostly I am hoping to work on my short stories for the website. I have two published there already. One you already read, although I
made a few slight changes to the story – http://alicat3955.com/joanclyde1/.

I also have another short story that I published to the new website that is set in 1985 during the AIDS crisis – http://alicat3955.com/bettyrachelepisode1/

I am starting to feel more and more inspired in the fictional realm of writing again. It has been awhile. I had been writing non-fiction for about 10 years, but now I want to combine the two, hence the new website.

Hope you enjoy the new website.” We do! It’s incredible! I was inspired to send Ali a drawing inspired by one of her short stories, which you can see in progress here:

Dan Lotz debuts feature film ‘The Long Con’

Three years in the making (I know all about that!)…

A TWISTING TALE OF CULTS AND CONS… When a failed safecracker is taken in by a mysterious cult, he must navigate the complex world he barely understands, as well as try to crack a safe worth thousands of dollars. Every step closer, he finds out what he truly cares about. In a burst of creativity Daniel Lotz brainstormed the concept for The Long Con in 2016 when he found himself on a beach looking at a group of strangers in the distant. What followed was nearly 4 and a half years of struggle, creativity, and hard hard work that culminates into the film known as THE LONG CON. With his creative partner Joel Dik working hard on the script and cinematography they found a unique voice and blend of creativity that inspired them to tell this controversial and unique tale that covers genre and the taboo. The Long Con is 922 Films third feature film. An achievement and testament to what a low budget crew can do with enough passion and creativity.
