Hooray! More News Sushi for you to enjoy!
Editor Note:It is Friday and that means it is time for the World Famous, soon to be Intergalactic Famous, News Sushi from our very own, Hamish Downie. Hamish brings us a decidedly different slant on Pop Culture as viewed through the lens of a non-native living in Japan.
Thank you (ありがとうございました) Hamish, for your insights.
こんにちは！Which means “Hello”!
Hello lovelies! I hope you’ve had a great week!
As promised, I’m recommending some non-major label acts this week, but I’ve decided to make it a weekly thing, so this week’s spotlight goes to… An Tôn Thất (thanks to a recommendation from Norm Yip).
According to his bandcamp page:
“Third album by Aaken. written between 2010 and 2016, after he left his home city of Paris to settle in Taipei. The songs are little vignettes of moments caught as his new life was unfolding, moments of solitude, questioning, struggle and glimmers of hope. The musical landscape still find its roots in slow cinematic songs, but contains more rock elements, thanks to his encounter with Taiwanese indie rock artist Sam Liao. Lyric-wise, Aaken furthered his collaboration with Bibbe Hansen, who wrote the lyrics of four songs, with Portuguese singer-songwriter, who penned beautiful words for two songs, and Japanese graphic artist Maki Felicia.”
It’s been 5 years since Prince passed away, and some interesting facts have been coming out. This week I learned that the video game, “The Oregon Trail” which turns 50 this year, was developed for Prince’s eighth grade history class! Wow!
Oregon Trail" turns 50 this year.
In the fall of 1971, the
computer game was created for student teacher Don Rawitsch's
8th-grade history classes at Bryant Junior High in Minneapolis.

Spotlight: Best Buddies
Here’s a new short film that you might want to support. I’m not sure if my best buddy Ellen and I would make great killers (expect of cockroaches along the foreshore)…
Are you an expat in Japan wanting to start a business? Then you might want to check this out!
Japan has become a very Lonely Island recently, and Felicity has made a great video on it for us.
My former co-worker is doing these one minute tourist videos of Japan, I fully recommend them, as he’s been everywhere!
