Hamish Downie’s Five Questions With Kerry Carlock and Nick Lund – Ulrich of Dos Goats Films
Hamish came up with this idea because he was accumulating too much material for his Famous News Sushi column and asked if he could do these mini-interviews. Why would we say no?
Thank you Hamish for being such a trooper for us. We really appreciate all for your hard work.
Let us know what you think of these interviews in the comments below.
TGG: Could you introduce yourselves and how you got into filmmaking to our readers?
KERRY: Hi, I’m Kerry Carlock. I’m a theater major turned reality TV producer turned TV executive turned indie filmmaker. All I’ve ever wanted to do is be a storyteller and I’m thrilled to be able to be making movies with my best friend and love of my life…
NICK: My name’s Nick Lund-Ulrich. I’ve wanted to tell stories since I was a little kid and I came into filmmaking through VFX and I’m currently working as a VFX Supervisor, while we tackle post on our next feature, SUFFER. Kerry and I talked about making a movie together on our SECOND date so it was inevitable that we became a directing duo!

TGG: Could you tell us about your film “Armstrong” (it sounds right up our alley)?
NICK:Armstrong is about a rookie EMT and her partner who have to help a wounded superhero survive the night and finish his mission!
It was released a few years ago and we had started writing it late 2008, just as the current superhero trend was starting up.
The stereotypical idea for indie movies is a story about two people in a room talking, but we had the idea to make our room an ambulance and have that ambulance hurtling down the street! At its core Armstrong is about a woman who desperately wants to help people and must overcome her own demons to do that.
TGG: Can I ask what it’s like working as a Husband and Wife team?
KERRY:Making movies is a true adventure! And like any adventure, it’s not always fun. There are dark moments and large hills to climb.
But it makes the quest that much sweeter when we’re in it together.
NICK: It’s great to be a directing duo since we can split apart and cover twice the amount of ground and since filmmaking is so time consuming it’s really great to have your partner be in the thick of it with you.

TGG: What’s next for you i.e. can you tell us as much as you can about “Suffer”?
NICK: SUFFER is a fantasy western feminist survival film! It stars the amazing Naomi Macdougal Jones and follows the journey of Ida, a revolutionary who is determined to bring down the twisted reign of the evil Prince. When another project of ours hit the back burner
due to covid, we wanted to come up with something we could shoot within the limitations of the pandemic. We shot with a tiny crew: our DP April Frame, steadicam operator Alex Flannery, and producer Jen Sorenson in the wilderness of Idaho for 15 days. We’re currently editing right now.

TGG: How can we best support you? (where can we follow you on social media, buy your films, support any possible future crowdfunding campaigns etc)
NICK: Armstrong is on all the major platforms for rent/buy… and you can follow our social at @dosgoatsfilms on IG and @dosgoatsfilms on Twitter!
KERRY: We are starting a crowdfunding campaign this fall to raise the finishing funds for SUFFER so follow us on IG and become part of our merry band of filmmakers!
