Editor Note:It is Friday and that means it is time for the World Famous, soon to be Intergalactic Famous, News Sushi from our very own, Hamish Downie. Hamish brings us a decidedly different slant on Pop Culture as viewed through the lens of a non-native living in Japan.

Thank you (ありがとうございました) Hamish, for your insights.

Welcome back to News Sushi for another week!

How’s your week been going? Mine’s going pretty good. I’ve taken some time off, and got some good news… My Marilyn Monroe video essay has gotten 4.6K views as of writing, which is a runaway smash hit for my youtube channel. It’ll likely be a one-hit wonder as it’s been boosted by the new film about her, BLONDE, which I’m refusing to watch, by the way. Who needs an NC-17 film about MM? Not me.

I’ve got some plans for upcoming episodes. It’s been very interesting researching this series.

Also, my short film, “The Last Anomaly” has finally been accepted into its first film festival, a queer one in Serbia. Details soon. The music and sound is almost done, thank goodness.

Remember how I wrote about how to marry a rich man a couple of weeks back? Well, this interesting article was written about marrying a Japanese businessman. It has some interesting things to say:

You hear all sorts of advice, from knowing how to use a Japanese ear cleaning device to being able to cook the five staples of the Japanese housewife (om-rice, curry, ginger pork, nikujaga, and something else). Which brings us to today’s topic… food!
Cat and Custard Pudding

Which is exactly what it says on the tin. Enjoy!

150g sugar
15g water
6 eggs
750g milk

Make a delightfully fluffy chiffon cake in your rice cooker

Hopefully you have access to Japan’s brilliant rice cookers.

Burger King Japan’s new Guilty Burgers serve up gourmet chip butties on butter-soaked buns

Can’t find photos, sorry, but it does make me think that the world is conspiring against my diet! This is the kind of thing we used to do in high school. Buy a plain bun and stuff it with chips. Deliciously bad.

Edo era Japanese Noodles!

Starbucks Japan continues autumn lineup with Sweet Potato Brûlée Frappuccino and return of PSL

They also seem to want me to come to their shops and ruin my diet. They sound and look so delicious. My favourite was still the chocolate and orange Frappuccino.

They also have some cats for Halloween (what a nice bookend)

One of her three husbands has passed away. He was an important artist in Japan.
